The economic impact of the corona virus pandemic is enormous and global. The rich countries of the world are willing to spend billions of dollars to increase the income of their workers and keep their businesses. An important question remains unanswered: Who will save the workers working in the global supply chains of many of these companies? These workers, as well as those who sew the clothes and shoes we wear, have been hardest hit by the economic collapse caused by Covid-19.

This research report provides new evidence on how food security of garment workers and the corresponding dynamics in employment status and income has worsened in the face of the pandemic. Our data paints an alarming picture of hunger widespread among workers and their families due to declining incomes for sewing workers who cannot get enough food and nutrition. This dynamic is a direct result of apparel brands’ reactions to the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as a long-term trend of low wages for garment workers in the brand’s supply chains, leaving workers vulnerable.

The pandemic is an unprecedented financial disaster for workers who make products with the university logo. Hundreds and thousands of workers have been laid off from factories around the world, often with little or no pay. This includes many factories that make college products. Based on the words of the workers, to show the impact it has on their families. Most of these workers can no longer have enough food for their children.

Hundreds of thousands of seamstresses, the vast majority of whom are women, have been suspended or fired. Many have just emerged from poverty. Although their salaries are low, they are paid for regular meals, basic health care, and education to prepare their children and siblings for better paid jobs.

The industry has made progress in raising safety standards in factories, although challenges remain, including poor working conditions and retaliation against workers who join trade unions.
